It’s been just over a year since we visited Biggin Hall Hotel in September 2019, and I said to Chris, my husband, I’d love to live in Derbyshire. To which he replied, well, why don’t we?
The rest, as they say is history. That brief conversation put the wheels in motion to bring us to where we are today. One more sleep until we move to Derbyshire.
It’s been a rollercoaster year. We found a cottage that seemed perfect. As soon as we had secured a sale, we put in an offer. Then came lockdown. When we finally emerged, things changed. We lost our sale due to updated mortgage terms, and decided against our purchase because of extensive rising damp. We were back to the drawing board.
But, within a week we had several offers on the table and sold our house a second time. And we found our dream home.
Sometimes things don’t work out for a reason. Our new house is situated in a lovely little village, not far from Ashbourne, and we have 180 degree views of the Derbyshire countryside. It’s more than I ever envisaged.
As I write this, we have one more day in our house in Lancashire. I’m surrounded by packing boxes. We’ve blitzed the whole house and let go of those possessions we no longer need in preparation for this new chapter in our lives. We’re both giddy and, now we’ve finally exchanged contracts after a rather prolonged legal process, we’ve started contemplating everything we want to enjoy in Derbyshire.
The amazing cheese shops, the locally sourced produce, the farm shops, being a short drive from our favourite sanctuary, Biggin Hall Hotel, the tearooms and cafes, Brierlow Bar bookshop, the places we love such as Bakewell, Buxton, Hartington, Tideswell and Ashbourne. The joy of having Chatsworth on our doorstep. The vast countryside dotted about with sheep and cows.
I can’t wait to explore and discover the hidden gems that I haven’t yet come across. Explore the Peak Park is about my travels around Derbyshire, finding and describing new places, sharing what I love and creating a resource so that you can enjoy the Peak Park too.
Come with me on this journey. Read my diary where I take you behind the scenes of our new life in Derbyshire.
